Thread: researching English, Scottish and Dutch roots

I'm a third-generation Canadian, my grandparents having emigrated to Vancouver, Canada before 1920 from Scotland and England.



Starting off with a few pages from a family Bible and some names from my grandmothers, I've spent a lot of time looking at census and BMD records but I still have lots to learn.



I know a little about most of my great-great-grandparents, and would be interested to hear from anyone who has come across them:



- William Toynbee (1798-1864), born in Woolwich (?) Kent, tailor, and Sarah Ashdown (1790-1874), born in Hunton Kent England.



- William Reed, cheesemonger [perhaps butcher?] and [name unknown].



- John Goodchild (1790-1867), born in Stilton Dorset, gardener, and Letitia Boxall (1796-1867), born in Chichester Sussex England.



- Richard Barnard (1812-1872), born in Climping Sussex, baker, and Jane [family name unknown] (1815-?), born in Chichester Sussex England.



- Gerhardus Herderschee (1804-1843), born in Amsterdam, master mariner, and Anna van den Acker (1809-1888), born in Amsterdam Holland.



- Dirk Herderschee (1809-1873), younger brother of Gerhardus, born in Amsterdam, overseas trader, and Bool Maria Holm (1905-1860), born in Amsterdam Holland.



- John Clempson (1805-187x), born in Wolverhampton Staffordshire England, optician, and [unknown -- Hannah? Mary?].



- James Avery (1798-1876), born in Barnstaple Devon, tailor, and Eliza [last name unknown] (1798-188x), born in Marylebone London England.



- Robert Begbie (1776-1853?), born in Pencaitland, East Lothian, "ploughman," and Agnes Tait (1778-1848?), born in East Salton, East Lothian Scotland.



- John Thomson (1771-18xx), probably born in East Lothian, miller, and Jean Robertson (1775-18xx), born in East Saltoun, East Lothian Scotland.



- John Taylor (1778-1869), born in Monzie Perth, weaver and also beadle, and Helen Cox (?/Cock/Coke/Cook) (1784-1872), born in Fowlis

Wester, Perth Scotland.



- John Simpson (1790-1866), born in Edinburgh, seaman, and Janet Sinclair (1793-1827), born in South Leith, Edinburgh Scotland.



- Henry Priestlay (1807-1863), born in Barkside Yorkshire, "chemist," and Fanny Mitchell Cawthorn (1811-1859), born in Pollington Yorkshire England.



- William Naylor (1819-1891), born in Rawcliffe Yorkshire, sack weaver, and Mary Elizabeth [family name unknown] (1824-1902), born in Pontefract Yorkshire England.



- Thomas Pickthall (1793-1865), born in Urswick Lancashire, farmer, and Sarah Postlethwaite (1800-1866), born in Dalton Lancashire England.



- William Parkin (1798-1845), born in Cumberland, agricultural labourer, and Hannah Taylor [family name not confirmed] (1794-1859), born in Grasmere, Westmorland England.
