Hi,
mine is an unusual one. A couple of years ago, my cousin discovered that our Great Grandfather, always known to the family as Thomas THOMPSON was in fact a Thomas TOMSEN and emigrated here from Belgium sometime in the mid to late 1800's. He apparently came to this country with no wife and six children. He was a basket maker and his eldest son also Thomas became a basket maker also. The name change was due top apparent anti-Germanic feelings in the coumntry in the late 1800's. ???
They are shown on the 1901 census as living at 2 Lytton Street, Everton, Liverpool. His wife at that time was Sarah J. Thompson, who was born in Birkenhead on the Wirral. His children are recalled as Thomas John, Jonathon Frank, Richard and Phryleda Rubina ??? Although the census lists a youngest child Sarah born in Manchester???
I need help as to know how to research Belgian records, in an attempt to try and continue the search in Belgium. But where do I go from here.
