Hi
I have been looking at some of the threads, and came upon one asking about Aux Fire Service Records, the answer to the question was correct but left out the vital information that you have to prove that you are a direct descendant of the man or woman whose records you wish to access. Also there is some confusion as to who should keep the records the local authorities outside of London were asked to do this after the war, this some of them did, some didn`t get the message and now blame the LFB Record branch for not keeping their service papers. I am currently writing a book for the SoG on Fire Brigade ancestry and of necessity spend a fair bit of time in the LFB Museum and the info given here comes from their Curator.
It may be as well to try the local record office or Fire and Rescue service they may be among those that requested the return of AFS docs, but the LFB does hold the records of all those who served in the old LCC Area.
The records are not great they are in the form of a card index with just very basic information, because of this it might be as well to try and find who has the accessions in county record offices of letter books and incident report books from 1938 - 45, these are normally card cover SO BOOKs of what would now be described as A4 size (SO stands for Stationary Office) I hope this info will help some you good people out there.
