Thread: Hello Out there!

Hi - my name is Jennifer - and well - i am very new to this whole genealogy thing. What got me involved is that i am taking a trip this winter with my step-daughter to London so that she can perform with her school band in the New Year's Day Parade!! (what a great experience for her!!!)



Anyhow, while we were discussing the trip with my in-laws - my father in law says "you have to visit Trafalgar Square - there is statue of one your ancestors there - David Beatty" Well sure enough, through some research on the web - we found that there is a statue of Earl David Beatty in Trafalgar Square.



So, we are trying to get started - doing some research and checking things out. I checked out some books from the Library, and your site happens to be listed as a helpful site. So if anyone can point out any directions for me to find out more about this Earl David Beatty - or just general help - it would be greatly appreciated!!!

You will find that this is a very addictive hobby, which if you get too engrossed leaves little time for anything else that includes what we all consider a swear word (housework )

Glad you chose this site as one of your guides to genealogy they do boast a number of very successful researchers and you are sure to get plenty of help.



As Shan has said it is hard to put aside once you start and it can also be costly to get authentication such as copies of birth, marriage and death certificates, but don't let that put you off, In fact a lot of us would envy your illustrious start, having an earl and a very famous one at that, so you will have a tremendous amount of history already there waiting for you to pick up in one form or another and also some very good photographs, oil paintings, and war records etc just to mention a few and that is just from one man, and you have'nt even reached his wife and family yet.



You are going to get so excited at what is out there for you and if we can help in any way at all, just holler. I could send you loads of stuff right now from simple searches but you need to make the first step yourself...
