Hi,
My name is Steve Hogg, I'm 42, come from Surrey in England, I am married to Diane with two Sons Reece Callum and Lewis Connall Hogg.
I'm digging in to find out more about my family name and unfortunately my father was not much of a ‘noter’ of family history. (He seems to be thinking about it more these days though!)
What I can glean so far is that we traveled down from Newcastle (UK) and may well have resided up in Scotland before this time.
My Fathers name was Roy Hogg, he married Wendy Elizabeth Anne Reeves.
My father’s dad was: Thomas Edward Hogg and his mother was: Sarah Jane Dawson
Looking at details, I've noted that we may have stayed in the north (Scotland) until we moved to Newcastle, we may be from a line of Hogg which descends from settlers in Scotland, who may have come over from a Nordic decent.
I've read up a fair bit and found a reference for a link to Holland in the 600's...
I understand that the name Hogg has three implication:
English: 'herder of Pigs'
Welsh: 'herder of Sheep'
Nordic: ‘Hawk master'
If we came from Scotland as a late wave of migration, then we may be of Nordic decent, (my sons would love to have Viking blood in their blood), romantically so would I, but history is a funny thing and we could be any one of the three branches in truth...
I'm looking at doing a DNA test to find out what our heritage is, but am unsure of where to go for a reasonable price and authentic testing, advice would be appreciated?
Any information is appreciated, as it only adds to a bigger picture…
Love and luck to you and yours
Steve Hogg
