Default Marriage of Ruby Cavanagh (b.1915) to Mr Parsons.

    Hi,

Can anyone find me a marraige to confirm that Ruby Cavanagh (b.1915) was Councillor Mrs Ruby Parsons of Penarth Town Council please ?

I've been told that Ruby Cavanagh went on to be a councillor in Penarth and found an obituary for Councillor Ruby Parsons aged 87 in 2003.

I'm missing the link which would confirm this to be the same person. Wouldn't it be great if I was actually related to the lady who was Penarth Town Mayor when I was growing up !

    Thanks.

    The story so far...

Councillor Mrs Ruby Parsons was born Ruby E. E. Cavanagh to John James Cavanagh and Ruby Elizabeth Rixson early in 1915. She became Mrs Ruby Parsons when she married Steven J. J. Parsons in East Glamorgan near the end of 1939.

Mrs Parsons' political carreer spanned four decades, which began in 1969 when she was elected a Conservative member of Penarth Urban District Council. She was voted Chairman of the Council from 1873 - 1874.

She became a member of Penarth Town Council after it's name change where, on 20th May 1877 she was elected to the position of Town Mayor, a post she would have held for one year.

As Lady Mayor, Ruby performed a number of public duties including the presentation of Jubilee mugs to the children of Llandough Primary School in June 1977 to celebrate the Queens Silver Jubilee and attending a Christmas Lunch for Penarth OAP's at the Paget Rooms in the January of 1878.

Ruby Parsons remained a Town Councillor until 1982 and was remembered as "A Lovely Lady with strong views" in a tribute in the South Wales Echo when she died on 24th January 2003, aged 87.
