--dob-24 Aug 1900 ( this is what I have been told--could be different)

Gresley Church Swadlincote, England

( I think this is in Derbyshire?)

parents--

William Garner and Alice Harvey



I have been looking for a marriage record for his parents with no luck either---HAH!! -so what is new?? LOL



Herbert came to Canada , unknown when ,and married Flora Isabell McCallum from Manitoba.

for now I will consider Alice Harvey --however-- this opens the doors to many more questions--as usual--



2 women marrying the same named man--- "why am I not surprised--since I do not have any other info for him this creates the usual connundrum!-



* could Herbert's dob be incorrect?

* was this a second marriage for the father?--or the mother?

* were there any other children to this couple ?

* maybe Herbert was adopted?



* searching for answers DOES produce many more questions.

I did look for census records with no luck--but will go back again---- and now I will look into immigration records for him and perhaps his family. We have no idea when he came to Canada.

so now I found only one birth record for this man-- searched from 1898-1911. Birth is registered in 1902 , March quarter in Holbeach, Lincolnshire--is this near Derbyshire?--Guess the money has to come into play now!!

Swadlincote is about 80+ miles from Holbeach



Just type them into Google Maps lol...'tis a vast difference

Hi Loz and thanks for the welcome. This is definitely the place to be when you are "stuck".

So many possibilities re Herbert. The only way to solve this dilema is to order the certificate I guess.

Who knows-- maybe the parents decided that they did need to be married after all.

I have been looking for Immigration records and there are soooo many Garners with H-or Wm. etc. We have no idea when they arrived in Canada, other than it was before 1929 as that is when he got married in Manitoba Canada.

Ahhh-- the fun of searching for "ghostly" answers--LOL



I don't quit tho and there must be an answer out there somewhere--

Hi Grammabee, I suspect you missed it by one year 1901 (I have a copy of the BC) and William was first, alas that was probably an issue. I've been trying to track back further for the Garner name for a while, His mother Alice Harvey (married under that name) was really Alice Jones, according to my cousins in Yorkshire, Alice mentioned this in her later years. Oh my goodness-- this is a very old post isn't it?--I have been "away from genealogy sleuthing" for awhile-- First -- thank you very much William for the information you have posted-- this is much appreciated! I will definitely go back into my notes on this man and family and pass the information on as I had been helping someone else find this answer--best regards for a great day!
