Thread: Help with various sites

Hello fellow family tree makers. I am just starting to research my family tree (very scary, knowing what I know about my family history) and wondered what sites people used for research and are any of the pay sites worth it. Sorry for the questions, only I am a newbie when it comes to genealogy.

Two very useful free sites are :-



http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Sear...secultural.asp This one gives access to the 1881 census and many births deaths and marriages before 1837



http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ This site gives free access to BMD after 1837 but is not yet complete.



All the pay for sites that I have come across are worth it if you have use for them. However it is possible that you could pay out for an English site and then find your roots are in the USA, Ireland or Scotland e.g. You may start doing your tree and then find it is not for you. The site has many members willing to help with the resources they have available
