Thread: surridge or quigley

hi every one hope your all ok.iam tryin to find out some info on ellen surridge my gran who married my grandad william greenwood,they had one child my father,ron who was born in 1924 ,they were all born in bradford. the problem is ellen who was known as quigley is proving to much, on her marriage lines it states she was a spinster ellen surridge, on my fathers birth certificate she is maiden name quigley again. and on her death certificate it says surridge i have been looking for births using both surnames with no luck. grans birth as always been 21 july, yet on her death certificate its june 21 1899 grandad always said both ellens parents were born in ireland ,then came to bradford to live ellen was born in bradford. if some body could help let me no, thanks paulettex

thanks nanna for that, ellen was born in 1899 that does say on her death certificate, but i have no credits to check this out, also her name is ellen but i know this coud be wrong, ellen has become a mystery thanks paulettex

Hi Paulette - I'm sure I remember this one from the dim distant past! Helen/Ellen confusions are so common!

Nellie is quite a common diminutive for Helen

A wild guess - but you could only confirm by getting the birth certificate - she was the illegitimate child of one of the Quigleys registered in the mother's name but then brought up by them - Richard or Christopher?
