Thread: Tiffens in Outwell and Wisbech

I would like to know more about the Tiffen Family. I have Alphonso Tiffen my hubby's great great grandad from birth to death but having trouble finding his siblings. On the 1851 census I have Alvina, Algernon, Alfred and Albert with Alphonso the eldest at 17. There was also another sister Alvara. They were living in Wisbech in 1851.Parents were Bolland and Susannah Tiffen who were born in Outwell. I believe Bolland may have had a brother Alphonso. I'd realy like to find Alvina, Alvara, Alfred, Algernon and Albert. There were 2 Alfred's one who died after the 1841 Census and one was born afer the 1841 census.



Any help would be welcome.

Hi Starlight - That was quick! Thank you. So if Alvara was 9 in 1861 it is very likely she is Avarah Elizabeth Tiffen married a William Randolph in Manhattan in 1874. Found this on IGI somehow - I'm not very good at negotiating that site and can't find it again! But why did she give her father as Robert when it was Bolland I wonder? I thought he was Bolland Boulter - and his father was Robert.



I will resume my search for Alvina and Albert now. Sometimes a bit of help gives me a kick start!

Wow Starlight you are so quick! So that would confirm the marriage I think. We were told there was an Italian link in the family but I am now inclined to think it was a French connection, I have found that Alvina and Alvarah were recognised French names and Alphonso is spelled Alfonso in Italy.



Incidentally I have Robinson in my tree from Penshaw in Co.Durham (or Pensher or Painshaw!)

Hi - Something just occurred to me - could the reason I'm not finding Alvina, Algernon and Albert be that they used their middle names? Since it appears Alfred was Alfred Julius, Alvarah was Alvarah Elizabeth Ryan and I know Alphonso was Alphonso Howard. Maybe I'll find out more when I finally visit Wisbech!
