Thread: Family lookups

I hope you don't think me stupid or something as i really am not sure about using this web site. I appreciate the help.

I have been trying to unravel my family history and have become stuck.

I have a copy of my GGG Grandparent's marraige certificate and it tells me where they lived at the time of marraige. Their names were William Henshall and Mary Ann Harwood and they married at Poplar Middlesex in 1863. That part is fine as i found the original record and have copy. The problem is i cannot go back any more. William's father listed his occupation as a lifeguardman and his name was George Ed Henshall, I have come up against a brick wall and have contacted that many places over there and no one can help me find Georges record of service or can give me an address as to where to send to.

Hi Deborah. Do you mean "Coastguard.? If so you could start looking at Genuki/Coastguard. I believe there is a list of names & stations on the Isle-of -Wight site.

Lifeguards are a british military cavelry regiment.

I think you need to find them on a census and/or find William's birth. Does it give an age for him on the marriage certificate?
