Thread: Sophia Freer

I wonder if anyone can help me please, I am having great trouble finding a birth reference. My G.G. Grandmother is on the census as Sophia Freer 1840 Hammersmith I sent for her marriage certificate - she married Thomas Walden in Hammersmith. I know that her father was Samuel and I found her mother Sophia on the 1841 census, on the 1851 census they were entered as Trees instead of Freer but all the names of the children and ages tie up. I cannot find Sophia's birth despite looking several years either way. Can anyone come up with ideas of where I am going wrong or did the same happen with names being registered wrongly like on the census details?

Names do get mistranscribed for births as well as on the censuses. Image tend to fade with age or get damaged making some almost impossible to read. I had Harrington, Hannington, Hennington and Hanicton in the same line. With the help of a couple of people that kindly looked at the films in a recods office I have now got it down to either Harrington or Hannington.

Sometimes births weren't registered - it was still quite a new idea and wasn't compulsory at that date
