    Default Northern Ireland Help Please

Not knowing much about my Great Great Grandfather Robert John McClelland I am not able to post a great deal about him or his family. I do know his Father was a John McClelland and his profession shown on my Great Great Grandfathers Marriage Cert for 1865 reads Carpenter. From the Royal Artillery Records that I have it states ...

Robert McClelland born in Antrim Portglenone. The year is not very clear but its between 1825 to 1829.

    Can anyone help please.

    Regards Marion

Starlight thats a nice sign in name. Anyway thankyou but I dont think this McClelland family is mine. My Great Great Grandfather Robert McClelland was born about 1829 Antrim in the Parish of Portglenone near the town of Portglenone in the County of Antrim ( Royal Artillery Papers state this)and in 1851 he was a Soldier in The Royal Artillery Greenwich. He enlisted at the age of 18 years. He married twice once in 1852 and then in 1865. It states on both Marriage Certificates that his Father was a John McClelland profession Carpenter. I have no other information regarding my Great Great Grandfathers Mothers name or siblings if any.

    Thankyou Starlight

    regards Marion

    Hi Marion,

Although there are a couple of other John McCelland's on the 1851 census for Antrim, there is no other Robert.

Maybe there will be more success when the 1841 census becomes available.

    Thankyou once again Starlight,

I dont believe Robert would be on the Census with his Father John for 1851. More than likely was abroad as he seved on the Troop Ship Himalaya. Did any of the other Census show a John McClelland/Carpenter for Antrim please Starlight? Sorry please dont think me rude but when you mention 1841 Census is that for Ireland? Also another family member sent this through regarding a find for a John McClelland. The two of us are still none the wiser for having this information and for all we know it could be another John McClelland but as it was sent through here it is.....

    Regards Marionx

    Hi Marion,

The other 2 adult John's are both weavers. The problem at the moment is that the images are not yet available so only Antrim is shown as place of birth not the actual towns.
