Default organizing research for trip to London

    Hi All!

I am visiting my brother in London in June, and have two weeks to do research at the National Archives, London Metropolitan Archives, and the SOG library before my husband joins me.

My problem is trying to organize my family history material to take with me, and deciding what format to bring it in. Printouts from my PAF software will be too heavy for my luggage allowance on the flight. I thought of bringing the whole GEDCOM on a flash drive and downloading the PAF software to my brother’s computer. Or opening up an account with one of the free online storage websites, and retrieving it when I get to London.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions they could give me about what to bring in the way of organization and retrieval tools?

    Many thanks!

    Hi Pam

Hope you have a very enjoyable stay in London!

I would opt for putting all your info onto a memory stick/ external drive?!?

You can also enter any research you do over here...then when you arrive home just reload it back on to your comp!

Don't forget your notepads and pencils!

    Goos Luck with your research

    Hi Loz,

Please forgive the tardy reply - I have been away at a conference in Montreal all last week, and am still racing to catch up.

Thank you for your suggestion. I think you're correct - the flash drive is probably the easiest way to carry the info. However, I'm always cautious, so I've experimented and I find I can send my Gedcom compressed through e-mail, so will e-mail it to myself when I leave, and pick it up from London. That way, I have a backup.

    National Archives here I come!

    regards,

    Pam
