Thread: Help needed !!!

Hoping someone out there will help me !!!



I am only just starting out, with little (very !!!!) info.



I am trying to trace ancestors down my Dad's side of the family. The only info. that I have is my Dad's birth, and his parents' names. What do I do next ? cos I haven't got any dates or anything for either of them !!!

Can you post your fathers name place where born and if you know any "guesstimate " year of birth marriage or deaths.....then we may be able to help!

Thanks for your reply ! A quite quickly going out of my mind trying to find anything out !!!!



My Father's name was Thomas Stuart Turner, born 17th April 1921. His father was called Harry (I think!) Turner and his mother's name was Annie Leigh. I don't have any dates for his parents, though. Oh - and he was born in Denton, Lancashire !



Hoping you can help me on where I can find any info - I need to know where to go to look (for free!!!). And, also, the info. I need to search for next.

I found your fathers birth entry, which confirms mothers maiden name is Leigh. I have been looking for a Leigh & Turner marriage in the indexes....looked back to 1915 but havent found it yet....that could hold the key!



Did your father have any older siblngs? Or do you have any idea when your grandparents died?

Your fathers birth was registered in the Ashton district....I have found a marriage in the Dec Qtr 1912 of Ann Leigh & James Turner registered in Wigan, Vol 8c Page 98



Do you think this could be a possibility?? I am not familiar with that area of Lancashire

Thanks for the info - my dad was the eldest of 3 children - 2 male & 1 female. His brother is called Colin Harry (or could be Colin Harry!) Turner and his sister was called Hilda Mary (or could be Mary Hilda!) Turner. Not sure when my grandad died, but my grandmother died (I think!) in the 1980's, aged about 98. Really sorry for the vague info - but I really do have nothing to go on !

Turner being a common name...and Leigh being common in Lancashire....this is pretty tricky to track down!



Unless one of AA's supersleuths can uncover more than me....I would think the best thing would be to get a copy of your fathers birth certificate....this will confirm the names of his parents.......names that we (or older rellies) "know" our ancestors by are often not their BIRTH names! You will see this more as you progress with your tree!

The marriage you found isn't the right one, I'm afraid. My grandfather was definitely called Harry Turner. And they would have been married in the Denton area of Lancashire.
