Thread: Lewis family of Devon

Hi i am hoping someone can help me i am trying to find marriage details of James Lewis born abt 1806 in George Nympton and his wife Rosamund(maiden name if possible)born abt 1806,James died in 1881 in South Molton and Rosamund died in 1859 in South Molton,i have been able to find census from 1841-1881.hoping someone can help as i cannot search further back until i have more info.

Thank you for your interest in my search for the Lewis family.



In 1841 James & Rosamund(my great great great grandparents)were living in South Street South Molton Devonthe census shows Elizabeth born abt 1837, William(my great great grandad i have his details he was born abt 1839)and Mary born abt 1840.



In 1851 they lived at 41 cooks croft South Molton and had 2 more children Lydia born abt 1843 and James born abt 1846.



In 1861 James was living in his Brother in laws house at 144 cooks croft South Molton as his wife Rosamund had died in 1859,the brother in law was George Gunningham his wife was Julia Ann Gunningham and they had 1 daughter aged 1 year old also named Julia Ann.also on the census was James daughter Elizabeth aged 24 years old and someone called William Hill.



In 1871 James lived alone at93 causeway South Molton.



In 1881 he lived at 4 crispins court South Molton with daghter Elizabeth Manley aged 43 years old and someone called Mary Ann Sluder aged 58 years.



James died in South Molton in 1881 aged 75 years.



I would be gratefull if you could find their marriage details and Rosamund's maiden name.
