Hi everyone
is there anyone who would be kind enough to help me solve a mystery i have stumbled on. my grandfather was frederick henry stockwell born 1876 in the 1881 census he was living at 2 fenwick place lambeth, with his parents henry and mary and siblings. i do know that his surname was spelt storkwell in the census. he served on the ship ss alice graham until 1901. he married gertie plummer in 1902 in poplar this is where the mystery starts on the marriage certificate it has his fathers name as sadler stockwell.
i cannot find any records of a sadler stockwell anywhere does anyone have any ideas what could have happened here. in the 1881 census it is definatly his family because it has all off his siblings, the surname was misspelt,
i am very confused now and would be greatfull for any help you could give me . the older members of the family knew freds dad as henry and that freds middle name was the name of his dad.
who is sadler stockwell and why is it in the fathers name section and not the name of his real father.
thank you![]()
