    Default Martins of Great Crosby

Another little puzzle for me on-line buddies to solve!

Henry Martin born c 1861 in Great Crosby....I have him with his parents up to 1881.

By 1891 he was married to Mary ?? born c1851-53 ?! Children are listed as:

    Richard Martin 17

    Kate 15

    Thomas 9

    Henry 7

    Rebecca 6

    Rachel 4

    Ellen 1 month

    HOWEVER..on the 1901 Census

Thomas is listed as Aldgridge........so I am presuming that Richard Kate and Thomas are children from Marys first marriage.....only I can't FIND a marriage dont know her 1st hubbys name (lol presuming she married she may have had all 3 outta wedlock! ).... and cant find the 3 elder children on 1881 either....

    Errr....any takers????????

    Thanks in advance

    Loz

Hi. Loz. I have seen your message on Ancesty Aid re Henry Martin b. Great Crosby c.1862.

Did your Henry live in Brighton Rd. and were his parents another Henry Martin b.Ireland and a Rebecca Moorcroft.

    Hi Martin

    From memory...........yes!!

This family belong to a friend whom I have been doing research for.

I do know that the Martin & Lee families lived on Brighton Road upto at least the late 1960's, my friend remembers visiting as a child.

Hi. Loz. Thanks for your reply. I think your friends Henry was an older brother to my grt, grandfather George Martin b.1869. In the 1881 census that I have they lived at No.12 Brighton Rd. Great Crosby.

The children of their parents Henry and Rebecca were very previlent in Brighton Rd. in the late 1800s. In 1901 there were some 30 odd Martins living in Brighton Rd. including your Henry with son in law Thomas Aldridge at No. 22. My Grt. Granddad George was at No. 74. They where also at 21 and 78. Parts of Brighton Rd. still exist today.

I know nothing of the Aldridges other than what I see in the censuses.

It may well be that your friend and I could be of mutual assistance to each other. If you or your friend wish to contact me by email my address is

According to FreeBMD William Oldread and Mary Formby were married Sep 1868 Liverpool 8b 259. The marriage took place at St Peter, Liverpool.

Henry Martin and Mary Oldread were married at Our Lady and St Nicholas June 1882 Liverpool 8b 197. I found the churches on the Lancs BMD site.
