Hi Scouseval
It would all depend on the country you require the cert from. In Scotland marraige cert contains age of couple names of both sets of parents and their dates of marriege, It also gives occupation for both parties. Wether parents are deceased or not and wether any of the couple have been previously married. Oh and also names of witnesses. They cost £13 by post but £10 if you buy from Scotlands people. I am sure someone else will pick up the thread if it is england you are after. They are cheaper but not sure what info they contain

Hi Val
The English & Welsh marriage certificates give:
Grooms name, Brides name (maiden) Occupations and residence - age (sometimes just listed "of full age") Fathers name and occupation
Witnessess

Scouseval,
The cost of England/Wales marriage Certs, is approx £8.50 for standard delivery which is about a week, or you can Fast Track it buts its about £24 and is with you in 3 days. ( bit steep if you ask me ) YOu can order them over the phone by calling Southport 0845 603 7788.
You should only need to order 1 Cert for the couple and best to have the Volume and page references otherwise they may charge you more for searching etc.
Content of the Cert depends on the period ie earlier certs might have less info than more recent ones. But usually have Names, Ages, Grooms Occupation, Both Father and Occupations and if living or deceased. Also has the address which they were living at when married and witness names etc.
Hope this helps

Hello Scouseval
If you are thinking of getting a marriage certificate the best way is to order one from the General Register Office online at www.gro.gov.uk.
You will need to complete a form to register yourself first and all the information about getting birth, marriage and death certificates is on the website.
The cost of a certificate is £7.00 for standard delivery which is 4 working days.
Alternatively, If you know the registration district where the event took place you can place an order with the registry office direct.
Happy hunting.
