    Default McCarte/Marano

    Hello List,

I've just received the certificate for my great aunt's second marriage. Her maiden name was Wynne, married Arthur Guest 1902, widowed and remarried James McCarte in 1927.

I am interested in the name of one witness to this second marriage, Edith Marano.

Jane had a younger sister Edith who went to America pre-WW1. I know nothing about her except that she did make at least one return journey back to the UK. I am wondering if the witness Edith is Jane's sister, returning either for her sister's wedding or if perhaps she was permantly back in the UK as a widow. To me the name Marano could be that of an American of Italian descent.

Is there any possibility of checking passenger lists of ships from USA to Liverpool around July 1927?

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

    Thankyou

    Keith

    Hi Gillian,

Many thanks for this information. The Edith Marano is of the right age for my great aunt Edith Wynne. Her return to America would fit in with a visit for her sister Jane's wedding in July 1927. Although she was born in Chirk, N.Wales she had a strong Liverpool connection, which may have lead to a misunderstanding, so she appeared to have been born in L'Pool. Maybe being married to an Italian gave rise to her being labelled as an Italian.

Of course she may be a complete stranger, but I'd like to think she is the g.aunt I'm seeking.

I am now going to try to work back from Edith Marano of 1927 to try to connect with Jane Wynne of 1912.

Very many thanks for your help, being very much a novice I do appreciate it.

    Keith
