Hi,
I have relatives, one of which went to barnet fair in around 1865-1870.
He went to the fair as he was a horse trader, his name was john stone.
He met a girl and stayed although lived in what my great aunt called bedouin tents, she says she has seen photos that show the tents.
I have a census in 1901 that shows JOhn Stone, a horse carter living with his wife Jane and his children George, ANnie, James, Thomas,Joseph and Arthur. He also had a daughter Lucy after1901. My aunt who is Lucys granddaughter confirms the above children are correct.
All of Johns children were apparently born in these tents, in various places and the census shows them born in varying places, edgware, watford, pinner and barnet.
This is all I have to go on, but I am fascinated by this (and the other!) strands of my family.
Can anyone help or uncover any more for me???
Thank you for your help.
I have had trouble finding births but if they were travellers I guess this would be hard?? I have found a birth for an Annie Eliza Stone in Watford in Jan Qtr of 1887, which would fit with the census. I have Johns parents and family back to 1340, they were from Aldbury, Studham and other parts of Herfordshire. SO it is Johns life from 1865 onwards I need to find out about.
