This is my latest brick wall:
I had been searching for my husband’s grandfather’s origins for 5 years then had a major breakthrough. All I knew for sure was that his birthday was 16th September and he died 1955 father was Charles Henry (Henry Charles) who was a cab driver and that, maybe, his mother was American. I found his Royal Naval service records b 16th September 1881 in Manchester and was a milkman before entry to RN in 1900..
Found family 1881 census:
26 King Street, Newton, Lancashire RG11 4012/57 page 39
Henry C Edwards head 29 Hereford, Hereford Coachman (Domestic)
Mary A Edwards wife 23 America
John H Edwards son 6 America
Mary A Edwards daur 5 America
Isabella Campbell lodger 22 Manchester, Lancashire cotton weaver
Bartholomew Hilton “ 23 Ireland Carter
Thomas Hilton “ 21 Ireland Carter
Then I obtained CW Edwards’ birth certificate b 16th September 1882, address and father as above mother’s maiden name = Hanagan then mother’s death certificate December 1882 same address and husband details.
I cannot find the family after this census. I know that Charles William was in RN stationed abroad 1901 but I should be able to find him 1891. I have him in Gloucester from 1908 and paid for his entry 1910 census, which states aged 29 born Manchester. Also cannot find his father prior to 1881
Suggestions please. I have made searches that turned into red herrings, I thought that I was on a roll when I got his birth certificate. No postive help from US forums
Thanks in anticipation
