Hi, can you give more details? ie was William's father still alive when he got married, if so do you know which town or county he was living in? The more info. you can supply, the more chance you have of someone being able to help.

Hi, if I have got the right 1881 census record...........William (wood turner) married to Caroline............ and you don't have these census records you should find them interesting. I am sure they are all the same family who have been mistranscribed, the original census sheet for each of the 3 years does appear to say WHITBY. There are 2 possible christenings on IGI for William, let me know if the records below are your William and if so I can give you detailsfor the 2 possible births.

    1851 Census Liverpool

    John Ludlow/20/lodger/wood turner

    Caroline Urtbey/33/wife

    James Urtbey/son3

    William Urtbey/32/head/wood turner

    William Urtbey/8/son

    1861 Liverpool

    Caroline Whitley /43/wife

    James Whitley/13/son

    William Whitley/46/head/wood turner

    William Whitley /17/son/wood turner

    1841 Census Liverpool

    John Barry/abt 1806/Ireland/

    Mary Barry/abt 1805/Ireland

    James Johnston/abt 1821/Lancashire

    Caroline Whittam/abt 1816/Lancashire

    William Whittam/abt 1821/ Lancashire/wood turner

happy easter slizzy, thank you for your messages,if william WHITBY was born in 1809 and his wife Caroline 1816 going by the Census of 1881 there would be age difference of 7yrs so in 1851 he would be 42 and she 35 in 1861 their respective ages would be 52 and 45 and in 1901 she would be 85.So I doubt it is them,Kind Regards Paul WHITBY

Hiya Paul, a happy Easter to you too.

I think we have been at crossed purposes so far as the 1901 census.

I am assuming the following family are yours in 1871!

    Caroline Whitby 6

    Catherine A Whitby 23

    Mary Whitby 1

    William Whitby 4

    William A Whitby 28

If these are your ancestors..............then I thought the 1901 census record I found could be the above Catherine, as the ages tally ie. age 23 in 1871 and age 53 in 1901. If the 2 census records are the same Catherine, then it would seem Catherine and William had more children than you realised, at least 3 born between 1871 and William's death in 1877.

Good luck with sorting it out

Paul..........re-: census return for 1861 'Whitley'

The address was Court No 2, Bolton St. the same address you have for the family in 1881. If you are not able to access the census records I can send you the images, but will need your e-mail address, which you can PM to me.

    Hi Paul,

I have sent you the images for 1861 as you requested, let me know what you think, personally I think it has to be them......same address, occupation, and same family first names, too many sames to be coincidental. If you would like the 1841 and 51 images to peruse.........you've only to shout.

What do think about the 1901 for William's widow? I can e-mail that to you too if you'd like.

    Cheers.........Slizzy
