Thread: Gaumont Co Ltd - Film Company

Hi.

Can any one help with some/any infomation on the Gaumont (GB) film company. My great grandfather was manager of many theatres and cinemas for Gaumont in the 1920's from Wigan, Manchester, Notts to Glasgow. I believe that he was in Glasgow for possibly 5 years from 1922. I know the Company's offices were at 77 Mitchell Street, Glasgow but I am really struggling to find any historical information about the company and the location of their archives ????

Hugh Wilson Travers, but I can't seem to find anything about him and the Company. When he died there was an artical in the paper saying farwell to well known theatre manager ???

Yeah I have check this out and also emailed the guy Nigel to see if he could shed any light. Got a short sharp response back, saying he knew nothing of the managers and did not know of records going back over 75 years. I am sure there must be some archives somewhere, its just a matter of where.

Have you tried the British Film Industry library? www.bfi.org.uk/filmtvinfo/library - they might be able to point you in the right direction
