Thread: Hilda wolitzsky nathan...again

Hi there..I now have a birth cert for hilda wolitzsky nathan....with the following info...



Date- 15th December 1908, 6 William Street

Name- Hilda Wolitzsky

Sex- Girl

Father- Samuel Wolitzsky nathan

Mother- Kate Nathan formerly Jacobs

Occ of father- Cap machinist

Sig of informant- Kate Nathan, Mother, 6 William Street Leyton

registered- 8th February 1909



Reg district- West Ham

Sub Dist- North Leyton

County of Essex...



I am not sure where to go with this, and census records are still not conclusive..in that I don't think they would have been married before 1901...well at least I cant find them. So I cannot really find them on censuses with their own families..not enough info.



Also I cannot find a mariage for kate and Samuel....but then thats not unusual for me.



NB- My grandad wrote to me and I asked if I had Hildas name correct with the wolitsky bit in it, and he said yes. He also confirmed that Hildas family were polish but didn't say which generation came over from Poland.





Dont know where to head with this....can you help at all??

found a birth of a kate c jacobs sept 1917, mothers maiden name jacobs.....could fit somewhere, naming patterns etc.



Have looked on freebmd for all records of samuel nathans and not one of them married a kate (or var.) Jacobs....so I have come to the conclusion that samuel and kate were not actually samuel and kate or they were born and married in poland!!!!!! aaaarrrgggghhhh.....I have zilch patience now!!!!!

I was also thining that perhaps Kate could have been married before and therefore Jacobs was a married name. The cert says Kate Nathan formerly known as jacobs.....my logic was that they would use nee usually, so maybe formerly indicated that she was married before!!! lateral thinking of the strangest kind!!

Hi Kirstie - you really need to find the marriage to progress further. FreeBMD is a useful resource but is not complete. You therefore need to search the relevant years on Ancestry BMD - start with Samuel Nathan and then cross check any you find for Kate Jacobs with the same reference

Thank you again Gillian...have been trying what you said since 7am this morning.....nothing!!!



The only thing remotely of interest is Kate Nathan marrying a Harry Jacobs...completely the wrong way round!!!!



I am not sure if its me but when you enter the search terms into ancestry...you put in the name of the person and then the surname of the spouse it seems to completely ignore the spouse bit and give you loads of things not remotely what you wanted.....I am not sure I do this whole thing right.



I have now resorted to temper tantrums and crying........people search for years for people, I have been trying for a week (all be it solidly all day and night) and nothing...not a sausage..........

You need to search the complete BMD index otherwise you are just getting the same info as on FreeBMD but in a less convenient form. What you are searching is the index so all you get is the page on which the name would appear (if there). It does not give you a match (except after 3/1911 it gives you spouse surname). So if you find a Samuel Nathan you have to search separately for Kate Jacobs for the same quarter - if there is one with the same reference you have the right marriage - otherwise you have to continue search.

I haven't time to look for you at the moment - I can check later in the week if you still haven't find it (or if you decide to leave it for the present and search for something else!)

hi thank you for your reply and info re Kate. I know my samuel lived in londons east end, but there's nothing to say that Kate didn't live in colchester in 1881, it's certainly not to be ruled out, I will make a record of the info...thank you again
