Default how to best use marriage cert info

I have my marriage cert for Hilda Nathan and Lewis Taylor, I wonder if I tell you whats on it, you could help me with how best to utilise the info??

1930- 19th March at Registry Office in Edmonton, county of middlesex.

Lewis Taylor, 24 years, bachelor, drapery porter, res. 3 danbury road, tottenham. Father Lewis Taylor Deceased, father lewis occupation carman.

Hilda Taylor, 21 Years, spinster, res. 3 Danbury Road, Tottenham, father Samuel Nathan, deceased, Samuels occ. Cap Maker.

They married in the presence of C Nellowship, and D Smyth.

SO I began looking for Lewis and managed to find him and his family on census records. But as for Hilda, no joy there.

I cant find her birth on Free BMD, well at least I don't know that the hilda on there in 1909 is definitely her, and I have got desperate and looked for census records for samuel putting cap makerinas the search term.

SO, WHAT WOULD THE EXPERTS DO????

    Thank you for helping me.

I'm not an expert but ....

It isn't a comon name so I would search births for a couple of years around 1908 (ancestry bmd) - my guess is there is unlikely to be more than one.

Then you would have to get the certificate

I would also be looking as you have done for Samuel on census returns. And for his death.

Am just about to have a look

    thank you gillian.

I am just posting on Nathan family and jewish rootsweb mailing lists. The family were definitely jewish, and I wonder if the cap maker, was a jewish cap maker?? There seems to be a big jewish cap making industry in London around that time.

Thank you for helping, I have tried to lok for hildas birth, i found two, but they dont strike me as the right one. There is a hilda wolitsaky nathan in 1909, but her marriage cert just says hilda nathan......still possible I guess though.

I was always told the family was jewish and from poland... not sure how tru the polish biut is.

Hilda Wolitsaky Nathan 1/1909 West Ham 4a 381

    Hilda May M Nathan 1/1908 St Geo E 1c 311

They look like the only possibilities (searched 1906-1910)

cool, thank you I just googled wolitsaky to see if its a common name, but didnt come up with anything, nearest was wolitzky.....so the wolitsaky bit is a mystery..think I may have to get my sister to phone my grandad to see if he has any memory of his family at all for clues!!

The Wolitsaky image isn't clear - I couldn't be sure it has been transcribed right

Have found a death for samuel nathan in 1913, he was 26 when he died, in hackney, it seems to be the most likely one to me....dont know what anyone else would think???

Birth wise though, it samuel was 26 when he died there is nothing in the births in 1887 that would be him...i dont think?????

SO was samuel born in poland as I first thought from what my grandad said....and may hilda have also been born there, as I was told when I was little???? eeeekkk.

Will have to do some more digging!
