Thread: 1940's marriage look up?

Is it possible to do a marriage look up for 1940 ?

I've just received my late hubbys birth cert and it seems his Mum was Nora Watts at the time he was born (5 August 1940 - birth registered 29th Aug.1940). but was formerly Nora Rivett. His adopted family have her down as Nora Rivett..........no mention of Watts at all so is there any way I can find out when she got married and who this Mr. Watts was ?

Well, bless my socks !! Is this my Nora and the strange newly appeared Watts chap ? Well if it is they got married before hubby was born. So......were they still married in 1940 ? Had they separated or was she a widow I wonder ? Very strange. And if she was married then why did she have hubby adopted ? No fathers name is mentioned on birth cert so was she a bit naughty and Mr. Watts didn't want to bring up someone elses child ?

Oh dear..........this is baffling me...................hubbys adopted family wrote it all down...........father Mr. E Maddison...........mother Nora Rivett. Mr. Maddison married at the time. Nora single and was taken by a close friend until hubby was born.

Dont know where to go from here but have e mailed the archivist for that area to see who else was living at his birth address. You never know..........might be a clue there
