    Smile Louisa Spofford after 1901

    Hello,

Can anyone help me to find out what happened to Louisa after 1901 census where she was visiting her brother Charles in Aston Birmingham please.

She was born in Sheffield abt 1880 to Francis Spofford and his wife. They died before 1891 and Louisa and her sister Annie were sent to live in the Cherrytree orphanage in Totley. Brother Charles was sent to a Boys home then went to live in Birmingham area when discharged.

I am struggling to find a bmd that fits her!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks.

On 1911 census she is in Leeds, at 3 Balmoral Terrace Headingly. domestic servant aged 29 to the Dixon family and she gives her birthplace as birmingham RG14/ 27078

A tree on A******* has her born Sheffield Yorks and in 1901 in Aston Warks and in 1911 in leeds so same one.
Gives parents as Frank Spoffard and mary Ellen Ibbotson. No further info on the tree.

Thanks everyone, you seem to have gone down the routes I have!! The tree you mention Lola doesn't have as much info on this family as I have. Her mother is my 2x gt aunt.

I had found a child Charles on 1911 census looking like he was being nursed by another family and did wonder if she had had a child out of marriage.

Other clues took me to Leeds but nothing defnite for a marriage there.

Little Frank Spoffard born Jan qr 1885, Death aged 5 Sheffield Yorks July qr 1890.
I would think he was Louisa's brother.
Spofford was a Yorkshire name from 1600's and probably was mistranscribed sometimes.
Marriage of a Francis Spofford in 1853 in St Peter's Leeds to Mary Temple (says spoffard in transcription but actual parish register is SpoffOrd) Fathres were John Spofford and Henry Temple. Francis seems to have been a family name so possibly grandparents of Louisa??

On the 1891 census in derbyshire, the surname for Annie and Louisa is given as SpAfford and birthplace for both is Sheffield.

My Francis was born 1847 in Leeds to parents John Spofford and Sarah Shaw. Francis was a Tailor. He married Mary Ellen Ibbotson in Ecclesall Bierlow in 1871.

Yes, Frank their son died young.

I have also seen it spelt Spawford, Spafford and Spafforth!! Drives you dizzy!!

    Many thanks Lola.
