Thread: Lydia Giles (married Davidson)

Hello,

I am trying to trace any record of my Great Grandparents.

Lydia Giles who married Robert Davidson in 1924 in Northumberland.

They lived in Ashington, Northumberland and had children named Elsie Doreen (who married James Gladstone), Alexander Davidson, Cyril Davidson, Vera Davidson.

Robert Davidson was married before marrying Lydia but I do not know his first wife's name except that they had a daughter called Jennie who married a Lindsell.

I can't find any trace of Lydia so I think she may have been married before she married Robert Davidson. My mother said that Lydia had a sister called Nancy who married Coppen and lived in Temple Avenue, Blyth, Northumberland and another one called Amy/Aimee.

Lydia Giles (Davidson) died around 1975-1979 and was buried or cremated at Cowpen Cemetery.

Robert Davidson died around 1967-73.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had found the record of the marriage of Lydia & Robert Giles and ordered the certificate yesterday so waiting for that to come. I also had already found Jennie's marriage record to Lindsell.

I went onto Ancestry.co.uk again after I put on the post and have found Lydia through her sister Nancy. Her sister's full name is Elizabeth H Giles who married Coppen. That has lead me onto Lydia's parents and their parents. It has taken me ages to find her Lydia and I've been searching for about a month as I was looking for Nancy Giles or N Giles married to Coppen but today I just put Giles married to Coppen and found her. I find it hard searching for ancestors when they were known by family member by their shortened names or nick names.

I've got the birth of Lydia around 1895 so the death record may be right. I will look at it. It could be right as I remember I was small when she died and remember going to the funeral in Cowpen Cemetery, Blyth.

When I get the marriage certificate of Lydia and Robert then I can see what their parents names are on there to confirm Lydia's record. I am finding it hard to trace Robert Davidson due to there being so many Robert Davidson's in Northumberland. I don't have any other information about him except that he was about 90 years old when he died and my mother said that he died when my sister was small which makes his death around 1967-1973 and his first wife died before he married Lydia.

I had found this record which had led me onto her children as well. I haven't found her birth yet though to see who her mother was who was Robert Davidson's first wife before he married Lydia.

well you now know lydia giles hadnt been marrried before she married robert davidson or her birth name wouldnt be giles . i can see family on 1901 and 1911 census. her mother esther had 10 children . have you found all these.

i have been looking for jennie o davidson and cant seem to find her birth and as she married in 1930 i am assuming her birth is rob around 1910 ish and that robert davidson was prob a bit older than lydia.

looing for a jennie on 1911 with father robert in northumberland hasnt brought up much but i did find this one in 1901 - which i thought might be of interst becasue of cowpen connection

no scrap that - found that family in blyth in 1911 and father is james w not robert, though perhaps some relation?

I'll have a look at it, I did wonder if the original surname is Davison and that Davidson just came in later on.
