Thread: Thomas Ryan born abt 1813, 9th Battalion Royal Artillery

Hi,

Im looking for some help in finding Thomas Ryans service records.

On 19th April 1839 Thomas Ryan and his wife Mary Ann had a son John Ryan born in Gibraltar. On the certificate it gives Thomas' battalion as 9th Battalion Royal Artillery. F*** m* p*** lists Thomas marrying Mary Ann Harry in 1834 also in Gibraltar and this is where i hit a bit of a snag.

I cant find Thomas's service records online, he's listed as an Acting Bombadier on his sons birth cert and none of this tallies with any of the records online, especially as on Johns marriage cert in 1868 Thomas is listed as Sergeant in Royal Artillery.

Can anyone out there help further? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried this website www.forces-war-records.co.uk/ it may help. - also worth a try the national archives you will need to check the WO records. He may have been acting up as a Bombardier for a while. Try www.firepower.org.uk/ it is a Royal Artillery Museum
