Default Need help with two wexford familys Delaney and McGraw

I am from Canada doing my family tree and I can trace it back to a Wedding in St Johns NewfoundLand Canada ON OCt 25 1819 at St Johns Catholic Church A Patrick Delaney from Rosegarland Wexford County Married Ann McGraw of Tintern Wexford I can\t trace my tree any farther then this I am wondering if anyone can help me out with these family would like to know who there parents where and if they can be traced back thanks for any help.

Thanks if you have any hints for me please pass them along thanks you

thanks for the help Elwyn the Griffiths Valuation of 1853 you mention a Ellen Mcgrath that could possible be connection there becouse in 1834 Ann MCgraw /Mcgrath who Married Patrick Delaney named a daughter Ellen so there might be a connection there. Do you have any more info on Ellen Mcgrath. Lola5 the Kilmore Genealogy site is interesting lots of Delaney or vary spelling of Delaneys to check out.

Could be tricky. Rosegarland townland is listed in Griffiths Valuation when there were 22 households in 1853. None occupied by a Delaney. The RC parish is Clongeen. It’s parish records only start in 1847.

There is a civil parish of Tintern and a townland of the same name, so it’s not immediately clear which Ann came from. If it was the townland, then in Griffiths there were 41 households in 1853, one of which was an Ellen McGrath. (McGrath is a variant of McGraw). A relative perhaps? She was probably a widow and had a house, offices (outbuildings) and 9 acres of land, right beside the police barracks, near Tintern Abbey. Tintern townland is in the RC parish of Ballycullane. It’s parish records only start in 1827.

I have no other information on Ellen. All I know is that in general households were listed in Griffiths under the tenant/leaseholders name. That tended to be a man. You generally only get a female name listed when it’s a widow or an all female household. Somehow, to me, a farm and 9 acres is probably more likely a widow than a single woman. If you want to know how long Ellen lived there after 1853 and who replaced her, you can find that out by checking the Griffiths revaluation books. These are not on-line. I am not sure where the ones for Wexford are kept. Possibly in the national Library or National Archives in Dublin or if not perhaps at county level. Wexford town library would probably know. (The ones for Northern Ireland where I live are in the public record office but that won’t help you).

If she died from 1864 onwards, then you may get a death cert for her, which will tell you her marital status and her estimated age. And if you search around you might find a gravestone for her which might name other family.

    Two more sites, wexfordancestry.com
this one has a forum where someone has offered Wexford/Newfoundland help.
The other is Irish Genealogy which has Wexford parish registers.
sometimes you get lucky.... and sometimes not.
