can anyone tell me what a gimper or boy Gimper was please

Had a look, George, but nothing seems right. Did he work as a weaver. In weaving they use a card called a gimp.... and maybe the person who made this card was called a gimper?
Another suggestion is that gimp was a kind of cord or braid so that one who attached this was called a gimper.... again in weaving trade.

Just had a look at the www. site that Janet H provided and it gives a long list of occupations, well worth adding to favourites,
It appears a Ginper /Gimler is a person who makes cards ,
