Looking for George Kendall born Yorkshire 1789-91

Urgently need help with anyone who may have a record for George KENDALL, born 1789-91 in Yorkshire. George was NOT born in Doncaster area (I have done extensive research there if anyone needs to know of any Kendall records there), however he did marry Elizabeth BARRETT in 1811 in Thorne. (Elizabeth was born in Fishlake). George, Elizabeth and their children Enoch, Elijah, George Jr., Elizabeth and Eliza, along with their married daughters Ann (married George WILKINSON) and Sarah (married William STONE) all left from Hull to Canada about 1842, settling in Ontario.

I suspect that George was born in the area around Leeds or York, but do not really know. I have a clue on the 1841 Census from Thorne, where it shows a Joseph Kendall aged 12, not a son, living with George and his family. I believe that Joseph was born in Warthill. It is quite possible that Joseph was a nephew? Joseph is the same age as George's son, Elijah, at the time of the Census.

I will be visiting in Leeds and York in mid-April for a week, and hope to continue my research, but I need that one critical record to get me going!

Still building family. Thorne / Fishlake are about midway between Doncaster and Scunthorpe. If Joseph 1812 was born Warthill he was born just outside of York. I have been trying to look at Thorne and Fishlake on the following site but it is having techincal problems but itmight be worth checking it out when it is up and running again:

Hi Noggin: Yes, I have all of those records (Census, ship, christenings of George's children). I have spent significant time in Doncaster searching the area, and George Sr. is not from there, hence my query. Joseph was 12 at time of 1841 Census, so born about 1828, same as Elijah Kendall. Joseph is listed as born in Warthill in 1851 Census when Joseph was back there for the Census (and I am assuming this is the same Joseph -- at least that was not as common a name for a Kendall!). Joseph is back in Doncaster for the 1861 Census.

Hi,

A George Kendall was baptised in Kirkby Overblow, 21st Apr 1788, born abt 1788, parents Ann and Richard Kendall.

Forget the above, Catsitter, he apparently died a month after baptism.

Other baptisms I've found are ...

George Kendall, 11 Jan 1792 Cathedral ST Peter, Sheffield, parents John and Elizabeth.

George Kendall, 09 May 1790, Bradfield,Yorks ,England (Bradfield is an area of Sheffield), only father's name entered - Benjamin.

George Kendal, 13 Nov 1791, GIiggleswick, York, England, parents John Kendal and Ann Howson. However, I think he is on the 1861 census.

Catsitter, have you seen this? If not it may be of interest. Though clearly the date of George's christening has to be wrong, but maybe other info is correct. I'll leave you to check it out and decide.

Slizzy: I think that I will try and find out more about George born in Bradfield. Looks like I may have to go to Sheffield (I was there last year on my stepmother's family). If you can find anything on this George after the 1841 Census, please let me know, as that would knock him out of the running ("my" George left England 1842)
