Default WHY CAN't I FIND PETERS?????

I started my family tree.........with me, PETERS and traced back the following my Fathers line which starts in Jamaica as he arrived here in the UK 1955

My Father (PETERS) although when I found hi birth cert his surname was HALL (taking his mothers surname) with no father on the Birth Cert, I also found his sister with same findings.

Following my Fathers Mother lineage I have found all her 8 siblings HALL and their parents Daniel HALL / M D'aguilar although there are some spelling variations!

My Question is will it be impossible to continue on my fathers side if there is no name on the birth cert? and where did PETERS come from?

My Father states his father to have been called Ivan(hoe) who died when he was young and before his sister was actually born putting his death around 1933 with my father being around 6 at the time.

    I don't know Nigel.
It's perhaps because we rely on written statements/ birth registers/ baptisms/ marriages /dearhs for correct information and where you don't have these it makes things difficult. It means one has then to explore tales the relatives told and sift the truth from the fairy tale. I have looked all the places I know for Ivan (hoe) Peters. There were lots of Peters in various areas of Jamaica and the other islands but none that seem to fit. You need more info from any living relatives. Maybe there is a possibility of finding children of your father's brother/s. If he was baptised Hall when did the change to Peters come because he is Peters on his immigration entry?
That is why I said you need a deep purse because it may well mean a trip to Jamaica for you sometime!!
It is possible you may be able to access his school records some time in the future and then you will find whether he grew up as Hall or Peters and whether there were any of those names at school with him.
You need to find a death for Ivan(hoe) Peters.....1933c....? How?

Your right Lola, the last thing I want to do is get led down the garden path following tales and fractured memories instead of factual data...........although at the moment thats all I have. I have so much Data / evidence to go at on MY mothers side that would keep me busy for a while however I have this urge to get a little further on my fathers side first!!

My father had 3 sisters and no brothers but what I have picked up from his stories over the years is that it was a very large family and he was brought it / stayed with "a" Grandmother and when I asked what she was called he said "Gran Gran" not a big help at all :-)

But I get the feeling that family members lived/ roamed within each others family circles (he was also mentioning uncle this or aunty that) and may have been brought up by someone else. Especially when you had the facts that his father died when he was young (around 5 or 6) and his mother was already here in the UK when he travelled from Jamaica so must have been with some other family member although No idea (at the moment) when his mother actually travelled, leaving him without his parents?

When he talks about his school days he says there were around forty of them (Aunts, Uncles, Cousins etc) so that may be an inroad at some point like you say but how do you get to obtain / see those sorts of records? Fun eh!!

    Nigel

Well I have subscribed to www.jamiacanfamilysearch.com in a hope that I may find some clues about my father and and any relatives in Jamiaca. I have a feeling that there maybe some links further afield as there have been vague comments about other parts of the Caribbean and emigration to Canada!!!!!

Put still none the wiser about my Fathers Father.......he was apparently in the policeforce in Jamiaca and worked in Trelawny and I found some records of the local constabulary and its workers but alas no Ivan Peters

    the search continues.......

    Hi Nigel,
Glad you have subscribed to the site as I got some leads from it some time back... but the link you put on this post does not work.
Lots of Halls and Peters on Antigua et al and they went to Canada and US. To understand the movements you need the background. There will be records somewhere. Already you have made great strides in a short time. You just have to find a Peters that fits. Meantime get as much as you can out of Granman as he was there and he still remembers names and places. The family and extended family were close but whether Ivan Peters was any part of the family you don't know. He may have been just around for a short time. Maybe your great aunt will have some more info to add.

    Hi Lola,

The site has thousands of pages and I'm struggling to focus in the right area as I know lots of it will be irrelevant for my cause, your right "Granman" is the key and I have already noticed that when he hears a name from the past memories come flooding back. Just need to trigger the right sensory nerve with the right name / memory!!!! and yes I think Murthline is the other key / hope of gaining that crucial link.

Well you are doing just fine Nigel...
I do not think two of the Sarah's are the same// one being a labourrer and the other a seamstress. Different districts too.

Seebert was your father's cousin so i expect Caddiann's, Loisa's and Lilian's children all grew up together. Someone must have photos/ School must have records? Did you find marriage records for the Hall/Turner marriages?
