    Default Please help?

Hi there, my name is Leigh. I'm 20 years old and for the past year or so I've been working on my family tree. I've managed to get my grandmother's side of the family back to the mid 1800s. I am really struggling to get any further than that. The surnames I have been researching are Pascoe for my grandmother's side and also Dobie for my grandfather's side (which I haven't got far with at all).

    Thank you,

    Leigh

    Hallo Leigh
Welcome to Ancestry Aid. Good Luck with your research.
It is wonderful that you are starting it while you have relations still there to give information.
Make notes of what they say for you will find there is often a good deal of truth in family stories.
I wish I had started my family history when young.
You are doing very well to have got back so far in so short a time.
The main thing is to enjoy it and never to assume . Make sure of your facts by checking dates/names/places so that there is no room for doubt.
We are so pleased you have joined us.... and I like the purple!
    Regards
    Lola

Thank you for your lovely warm welcomes! Well, the Dobie and Pascoe as far as I know were situated in the North East of England, particularly in a village called Murton. Most of the details I have of the family were situated there. Today I have found a lot of names and dates of deaths in various Murton pit disasters but do not know how they relate to anyone I already have in my tree as the only information was their deaths and sometimes birth dates. Oh and when I say a lot of names- A LOT of names haha

Well! I'm a name collector too.... whether they are actually in my line or not I have boxes of books full of names and they have become a burden.... so one piece of advice is ... write small and use little notebooks.
Start with what you know... parents, where they were born, where they married and who their parents were with birthdates/christenings/ marriages etc. If you are already back to 1800 in one line how sure are you that all the pieces fit perfectly?
Once you go beyond the 1837 mark when registration copies became available it can become difficult. Sources are parish records and for these you may need to visit record offices as not all information is on line.
If your folk stayed in Murton then you are indeed fortunate.
One other piece of advice I offer you....be wary of other people's trees with your people on them because, unless they are very well researched, they make have incorrect information and you may find yourself following the wrong road. Check and re-check everything.
Now I'll go and take a look at Murton as I have to say I have never heard of it!
Oh I forgot! Google searches often lead to amazing finds.
    Any connection to Dobies seeds?
