I've just started to try and find out some info on my grandmother who was born in the UK - around the late 1800's. Her name was Elma Wiles and she married Clarence Woodlock just before my mum (Ruby Elizabeth Woodlock) was born in 1920. Clarence was not my mum's real dad ... her real father was an Indian Doctor/Specialist on Harley Street and their relationship and having a mixed child was not the done thing in those days and they were not allowed to continue their relationship and my grandmother was married off to Clarence who is listed on documentation as her birth father.
The family came to Australia on a ship when my mum was around 3-5, so say 1923 -1925. Any info on this would be helpful too.
I'd love any info you can find on my grandmother - when she was born, died, married and also who her parents were and if she had any siblings etc.
One day, I'd love to try and find my grandfather, but we only have a vague idea of his name, but I though it might be possible (but a very long shot) to go through some medical directories for around the time he would have graduated ... and see if a name rings any bells. I don't know if there would have been too many well educated Indians who became doctors/surgeons and worked in Harley St in the late 1800's. I can only try, but really don't think I'm going to get anywhere which I sad, as I'd love to connect with the Indian side of the family. I think I'll sort out my grandmother's side as that is a lot easier, with the help that has so kindly been offered here.
Many thanks for the offer of help ... I really do appreciate it.
