Default Looking for info on Elma WILES

I've just started to try and find out some info on my grandmother who was born in the UK - around the late 1800's. Her name was Elma Wiles and she married Clarence Woodlock just before my mum (Ruby Elizabeth Woodlock) was born in 1920. Clarence was not my mum's real dad ... her real father was an Indian Doctor/Specialist on Harley Street and their relationship and having a mixed child was not the done thing in those days and they were not allowed to continue their relationship and my grandmother was married off to Clarence who is listed on documentation as her birth father.

The family came to Australia on a ship when my mum was around 3-5, so say 1923 -1925. Any info on this would be helpful too.

I'd love any info you can find on my grandmother - when she was born, died, married and also who her parents were and if she had any siblings etc.

One day, I'd love to try and find my grandfather, but we only have a vague idea of his name, but I though it might be possible (but a very long shot) to go through some medical directories for around the time he would have graduated ... and see if a name rings any bells. I don't know if there would have been too many well educated Indians who became doctors/surgeons and worked in Harley St in the late 1800's. I can only try, but really don't think I'm going to get anywhere which I sad, as I'd love to connect with the Indian side of the family. I think I'll sort out my grandmother's side as that is a lot easier, with the help that has so kindly been offered here.

Many thanks for the offer of help ... I really do appreciate it.

Welcome to AncestryAid. EMMA Wiles married as you say in quarter1 of 1920, in Pancras London Vol 1b , page 190, to Clarence Woodlock. There are 16 Emma Wiles born between 1890 and 1905. Do you have any idea how old she was when she died, and what year, as this would narrow down the possible Emma's? If you purchase the marriage certificate this would give her fathers name. Cost is £9.25 from General Register Office (GRO) - Official information on births, marriages and deaths

Hi Brian, thanks so much for your quick response ... very impressive!

The details of her death are part of what I am trying to confirm. I have found a grave site in Australia for an Elma Wiles and that states that she died in Adelaide, South Australia in either 1956 or 1957, I think. But as I don't know much about her, I don't know if this is actually her. I just found out by speaking to the cemetery the other day that Elma Wiles is actually buried in the same grave as Paul Ewald Schubert ... but we don't know who he is. I know she did marry a Schubert, but Paul wasn't the name that my family remembers.

I hope some of the above info helps you. I really do appreciate the info.

Hi There, Australian death certificates are very informative and they state the parents names and siblings of the deceased so it may be worth your while trying to obtain a copy of the certificate for Elma Wiles who passed away 1956/57..There is a public member tree on A******y for Ewald Hermann Schubert tree holders name DavidButler76 and it mentions this Ewald as being married to a Elda Antonia Wegener..Paul Ewald above who you state is buried in the same grave could be a relative. Ewald Hermann is buried Lobethal, South Australia, Australia. You also state that Paul was not the name your family remembers so maybe he changed his first name..
