Thread: Sarah Ann Coombs

Sarah Ann Coombs born abt 1859 in Paltimore Devon, appears in the 1861 census and is described as 'neice', of Robert & Elizabeth Coombs RG9; Piece: 1388; Folio: 46b; Page: 4
And in 1871 she is described as grandaughter living with the same family. RG10; Piece: 2053; Folio: 49; Page: 4
Any suggestions who her parents might be?

well i was going to say that in this instance i think you are only going to solve it by buying her birth cert but i cant see a sarah ann coombs birth in the right area at right time

what about her marriage cert - does that give a father?

Thank you Welshlady, unfortunately I do not yet have a marriage certificate, but will have to order one. Before doing that, i will try and find Robt & Elizabeth Coombs in the 1851 census and see if they have any daughters who would become of child bearing age between 1851 and 1861!

Looked everywhere I can think of... free reg (but Poltimore isn't on it yet.) A***** . F*p, and Lsd . Googled but no luck. You could maybe give Devon record office a call or e mail and ask them for a look up(since it's Christmas.... or nearly.... season of Good Will and all that.)

For what it's worth. I think she is illig daughter of Eliza Coombs daughter of Robert and Elizabeth who is aged 23 and unwed on 1861. (Did you notice william coombs aged 17 living next- door -but -one.
In 1871 she is still at home aged 12 and now properly described as grandaughter.
Sarah Ann's marriage is July qr. 1884 at Exeter. Devon, 5B 165.. toFredk. W Short. so near home.
She is on1901 in West Ham with Fred and children and her birthplace is Poltimore.
Poltomre is in district of Heavitree which is Exeter.... I rest my case..
