I have been told that my great great grand father george thomas shorter married eliza maria halmkan 1853 she was german. He was b 1828 london father james shorter mother catherine mewitt and that his name was changed from schosher to shorter as he was interned during the war 1st. i have no comeformation of this, but i have got george frederick shorter which is his sons birth cert dated 1862.
I need to know the truth. Was he a german?
