Thread: George Cairns

Hi Everyone,

I seem to have hit the proverbial brick wall... I am trying to locate the fathers name of my Great Grandfather.. George Cairns, born about 1875/ early 1876. I know that he married Catherine Rollins in 1920, from which my Grandfather was born. I have located a birth certificate for a George which is dated 21st Oct 1875, and has Sara Cairns as the Mother, but no Father's name... Which going by family rumour was the case. Having looked into old street records, 78 Utility Street Belfast (shown on certificate), it flips between a James Reaney and Sarah Carins.. It seems he lived there first, then she, then back to James, and finally back to Sarah... .. True, it's probably not alot to go on, but I would be greatfull for any ideas of where to look.. if it's even possible.

..... Seems that the 'brickwall'... was my own fault... Family rumours ended up holding no truth... Fortunately, I have now been able to discover the names of my great great gandparents.

You seem to have solved that mystery very quickly. Glad you have the right one/s. Don't go away! Hang around as we can do with someone like you to help knock down some very high brickwalls.
As for family stories. Some often have a grain of truth in them that gets distorted over time.

Thanks Pejay and Lola5, fortunately I was able to obtain my great grandparents marriage certificate, which then lead to my great great grandfather.. Names dates, as well as adresses all matched up...
