Have you considered the death in Qtr 2 of 1855 of Joseph Woodroffe in Bedford Vol 3b Page 199 ?

On Family Search Joseph's father is listed as Thomas Woodruff. I can not find a marriage yet.

The only baptism I can find for a Joseph Woodroffe in Northants is at All Hallows Wellingborough on 22 Jan 1819 parents Charles and Sarah and Charles is a shoemaker. Still I expect Brian has got the right one.

Pete, By relatives I meant not Sophie's relatives but her husbands folk- her in laws.

Will of Joseph Woodroffe , late of Risely Bedfordshire who died 23April 1855, Baker.
Probate granted 15 June 1875!(20 years to prove a will?)
in Northamton to Robert Woodroffe of Raunds in Northamptonshire, the son and next of kin. (effects under £450)

But also will of John Woodroffe who died23 April 1875 of raunds in Northamptonshire proved by Thomas Woodroffe of the County of Bedford, the brother, William Whitehead of Ecton in Northamptoshire---- etc etc.etc

I see Thomas born 1776 (Father of Joseph?)and your Joseph's siblings including an Ann and a John and a Thomas all in Risely in 1841 but not born there.
Sister Ann WOODRUFF died 19 May 1874 in Raunds and brother John WOODRUFF(Gentleman) now in Raunds was to administer the will but he died before he had done so and so it was administerd by brother Thomas of Risely.
Do you have this already?
I guess Thomas senior died before 1851 so still don't know where he was born.



So Sophia returned to Raunds because there was Joseph's family still there.

Hi Pete,I did find Baptism for Joseph Woodruff but too early to be yours. I wonder if the church in question though could have been a church the Woodruff family used over the years?

The church is St Peters and the place is Raunds..I will add the earlier entry for you..

Baptism date 27th May 1714..Forename Josheph( possibly mistranscribed) Fathers forename John..Mother's forename Mary..Fathers surname Woodruff

I also found a marriage for which could be connected to the same Favil family from Bedfordshire?..
Place Riseley,church All Saints, date 16th November 1729..Brides name Sarah Favil,Grooms name William Litchfield..

They are probably all connecetd Marion. Freereg.org.co.uk has transcribed Raunds but they are just not coming up. I think they were all baptised at Raunds.

I have found lots of bits but not sure what you want. We need Raunds parish registers!!

Found a few...... THOMAS WOODRUFF of the parish(Raunds) married ELIZABETH KNIGHTON of the parish after banns, 23 Sept. 1794
Several others also female Woodruffs. Here:- www.rushdenheritage.co.uk Check this site out. It is very useful.


Early baptisms m/marriages burials here but later ones not transcribed yet. Northampton FHS has them.
Think Joseph married at Risely(bride's home) or have you got her marriage already.
I have John Woodruffe in Raunds in 1730 on the freeholders list, then Thomas Woodruff in 1748(same list) and Thomas again in 1806.
So it might seem reasonable to suppose the John and Mary with child Joseph(found by Marion) were grandparents of your Thomas born 1776.
