Frederick Willam Short Born abt 1855

Hi
I am stuck trying to find the parents of Frederick William Short born about 1855, possibly born in Westminster London. I know he married Sarah Ann Coombes in Exeter in 1884. In 1891 he was living in West Ham with Sarah, a coal dealer by trade. Prior to this marriage I have no information. (Yes the answer would be to purchase the marriage certificate, but as I am researching this family for a friend, I am trying not to buy too many certificates.) I have a tree on A.......y - Short family, and I am not convinced the birth details I have are correct; hence the question!

Hello Brian, Well that was going to be my first question in regards to the marriage certificate..I will see if I can find anything for you later through the day but as we both know sometimes in order to progress any further we need to purchase certificates.Can you give us any more information such as children names and places of birth..Good old Westham know the place well..

Sarah Ann Coombes 1859 -1906? Born in Politimore, Devon
Married in Exeter 1884

Children
Frederick George Short 1885 – 1972
Herbert John Short 1887 – 1969
Lucy Mary Short 1890 –
William R Short 1892 –
Clara Alice Short 1894 – 1983
Hannah Lena Short 1894 - 1984
All children born in Plaistow, Essex or West Ham

On the 1901 census on A.....y the family name is transcribed as Sharr

Well you can discount the Fredk. W. Short born Marylebone living with parents Edward and Mary A 4 Ogle Mews St. Marlebone in 1881 and 1871 because he was a carriage painter, son of a wheelwright and he, in 1891 was married to an Alice and was living in Chelsea with her and some children. So that's one out of the way.
Who do you think his parents might be?

A possiblity would be William and Mary Ann Short who baptised a son 11 Jun 1854 at St George the Martyr, Southwark. Their occupations were Publicans. BUT I have no evidence to support this, other than they had a son Frederick Willaim Short born around the right time!!

Suggest you look at the 1871 census RG10 1632 120 27

Frederick Wm SHORT married Rebecca SURRIDGE of Devon

childrens name s run similar to thoser of Frederick b 1855

Have you seen the Grant of Probate

That family does seem to be a strong possibility, I think I will need to invest in the marriage certifcate, just to confirm it. Yes I have seen the grant of probate in 1904.

And that William Short ,(posted by whitesatin) ( father of Frederick W,) was born in Swimbridge Devon so that's another link. But that Fred. W was born in 1860 and not 1855 so possibly you had dismissed him.. he first married a Catherine in 1881 and then Sarah Ann Coombes in 1884.
I think with this one you need to get the cert. There are several possibles for Fred W so only a cert will do.
