Thread: Ford in Liverpool

My GGGF Thomas Ford b 1851 in Liverpool adopted my GGF Henry Ford. As far as I can find out, he never married his wife Elizabeth. I have found Henry' birth certificate. But without a marriage certificate I am at a loss to work out how to find out her Thomas' parents were. There are many Thomas Ford's that fit his description. So any ideas ?

Can you tell us more about Henry Ford. When was he born and where? Do you have the certificate?
Where was Thomas Ford living at the time of the 1881 census. Was it in Monks Coppenhall or elsewhere?
Have you any census records for them as a couple.
Sorry for asking so many questsions but the more info you can give the easier it may be to find answers.

Henry was born in the Liverpool Workhouse 19 June 1878. His mother was Esther Walker and his father was listed as Joseph. Henry turns up as Ford in the 1881 census, Living at 21 Godfrey Street, son of Thomas and Elizabeth. At that time and on very other census Thomas states he was born in Liverpool and is a painter. However, in the 1871 Also in Godrey Street is aThomas (painter) and Elizabeth Ford but this Thomas says he was born in Windsor, Berkshire. I suspect this is the same person. Elizabeth was born in the Roby/Hunts cross area of Liverpool but in this census it says she was born in Roby, Berkshire !

Found them on the censuses. Found Henry's birth etc. Was there a marriage for Esther to Joseph Walker? I cannot find it yet.
Don't think Thomas was born Berkshire... but? Have you found Elizabeth's surname?. Have done research Berks and cannot recall a Roby in Berks.

Esther had 7 children. I never found a man living in the house although she claimed she was married to a Charles Crosby, lived as a Crosby in the censuses and named him as the father of most of the children. However the birth records generally listed Charles as the father and Esther Walker as the mother. The name Crosby comes up in my family as the aunt of Henry Ford who adopted him. It is thought that Elizabeth was a Crosby. if so then the family story would be true except I can't find Charles. Personally I think Esther (born Manchester 1852) was unmarried and just made up a fathers name. Henry (and my mothers family) kept in close contact with his brothers and sisters still under Esthers care which again argues for a family connection.

Ah! I wondered if Elizabeth might be Henry's aunt.
