Default Laura Emberson (spinster), Born in Stock, Essex 1869 OR 1872

I am keen to discover anything about my maternal grandmother, Laura Emberson (spinster), born in Stock, Essex (and her family) before she married my grandfather but I have hit a Brick Wall.

    These are the facts I have;
Born: in Stock, Essex in about either 1869 or 1872.
( I had her birth as abt 1872 ... until her marriage certificate shows her as being 19 when she married; and her age at death to be 63 in 1932 ...... making her birth to be about 1869)

Married: 10 November 1888 in Billericay Parish Church to Hezekiah Crowe; witnesses - William James Bloxam Reeves and Ellen Walker.
Her father is NOT listed on the marriage certificate. Laura is listed as a spinster - with no rank or profession.

Hezekiah Crowe was born in 1865 in Hemblington, Norfolk. His profession on the marriage certificate is quoted as blacksmith. He worked on the railway which may explain him being in Essex.

In the 1891 Census they are listed as living at 81 Husband Street, Miles Platting, Manchester.

    There were
11 (updated from first writing) children from the marriage.

Laura died 28 November 1932 in Manchester and is buried in Phillips Park Cemetery, Manchester (Grave number 1172)

Any help in discovering more about her early life and her parents (and/or siblings) would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you in anticipation

(UPDATE) PS from a cousin I have learned that Laura had A SISTER, Emily Emberson ( but I can find no information about her either)
    Help still needed please
(this thread updated 23 January 2012)

(Further Update) Emily was also born in the Stock, Essex, area. She may well have been known as Emily SPELLER - Married name EMILY LAVER.
(This update 3April 2012) Help still needed please.

Seems you may have put me on a fairly good search track - Chelmsford was/is the Register District for Stock.
Chelmsford, Stock and Billericay are all within close proximity of each other in Essex.

My grandmother was always only known as Laura by my mother. 'Laura' is the only name on her gravestone.
    Thank you

I do notice there are quite a few Embersons born at Chelmsford. A thought occured to me Perhaps she was not registered - but that is fairly unusual as late as those dates.
could she have been registered just as femal Emberson I did find one for sep qr 1866 registered at Islington 1b 287 but that is not Essex. and I am notr really hopeful that is her. Why isn't her father on the marriage cert I wonder? Could she have been registered in her Mother's maiden name? Was there some issues surrounding her Father. Worth a thought. But it still does not help. Have you checked the 1871 and 1881 census for her?. The ages on census details as on marriage certs are not always accurate.

Thank you pejay for your last two posts.
I looked at 1881 and 1871 Censuses but the only Embersons I found lived at Whittle - another location in the Chelmsford are.

Will look into the Joseph Cox lead during the week sometime; again thank you.
I have also been looking out to see if I can find anything for Hezekiah Crowe as a lodger in the area - so far no luck.
