Default George Richardson born 1872 in Knaresborough, Yorkshire

According to my father, as related to to other members of my family, my grandfather George Richardson, who lived in York, pushed my grandmother down the stairs of their dwelling. As the result of this, their children were taken into care. This would be after the 1911 census and before 1915, when my father joined the Navy.

I cannot find details of death for my grandmother or grandfather.

If anyone has any ideas how I could proceed, I should be very pleased to hear from them.

    Hallo robinrichardson,
    Welcome to AA.
We hope you will enjoy researching your family and wish you good luck.
There are at least two deaths for George Richardson in Knaresborough Yorks , one in 1930 and the other Sept quarter 1937 for a George G Richardson. Do you think either of these might be yours?
Was George's wife named Mary and did they have fist a daughter Annie and later, George, Lizzie, John and Kathleen?
Are these yours and are any still living as we must not put the names of living people on here?

    Hello Lola5

Thank you very much for the information. The family that you have described is indeed mine and were living in York at the time of the 1911 census. I do not know if any of the children are still living.

I will investigate the deaths which you have quoted to me.

I did not know that you were not supposed to enter names of living people on the site.

Thank you again for your help.

    Best wishes

    Robin

I will try to find Mary's death. Do you know her maiden name. If Mary died as a result of an accident at home would there not have been an inquest?

    Hello Lola5

My grandmother's maiden name was Igo. I do not know if she died, as the result of the fall. How would I find out about the inquest, if she died? Also, how would I find out if my grandfather was prosecuted, and subsequently imprisoned?

    Thank you

    Robin

We will find her death and then if you can send for the certificate from the GRO it will have cause of death on it and if anything was suspicious then the coroner would have signed the death cert. Family stories often have some truth but also exaggeration. If there was an inquest there may have been a newspaper report in the local paper.
    Might this be it
Mary A Richardson death Knaresborough Dec 1913, GRO no 9a,117. She was 49. But yours supposedly 28 in 1901 would have been born in 1873.... so no! but did she die in Knaresborough? Where were they on 1911.

Apologies for the delay in replying. My family were in York on the 1911 census. My father joined the Navy in August 1917 and was living then at 75 Huntington Road, York, which I understand is the address of the York Workhouse. Would there be any records to show when he entered that establishment, and what the circumstances were which led to his admission?

    Thank you

    Robin

There may well be workhouse records. They may be in the national Archives at Kew.
There is also a workhouse site(google.)
Where was your father between the death of his wife and 1917 when he entered the navy if he it was not proven that there was a crime involved and therefore not imprisoned? Naval records will also be on the A2A site.
How do you know he was living at 75 Huntington Rd. York in 1917?
Also do you think she died at time of fall or might she have been incapacitated and unable to take care of the children and died later?
Need to find her death and get that cert and then if there was a coroner's inquest you could write to Coroner's office in York perhaps.
archives.northyorks.go.uk has coroners records from 1819-
Try www.workhouses.org.uk. Put in Knaresborough search and scroll down and you will see photos of the place in later years.
Also have a look on freebmd. There are some deaths for mary richardson between 1903 and 1916. I cannot yet see one who might fir yours(born 1873).

In Scotland if a death is because of the result of an accident or sudden death then there will also be the findings of an inquiry or inquest to the death and will also be found in a Register of Corrected Entries, I think the same would apply in England too.
