Default Ryarsh, Kent (& Hadlow, Kent) - PAWLEY ancestors, please can anybody help?

    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help who has access to the Ryarsh parish records (Kent). I am looking for a Francis Pawley, Wheelwright, born Ryarsh circa 1787 - and his baptism record. He also has a sibling George born circa 1781, most likely other siblings too.

I have found a probate record of a Francis Pawley (senior), Yeoman of Ryarsh who died 1790 and I am trying to work out whether he is the father or grandfather of Francis, there being a possible extra ancestor in the middle! (The word " senior" is actually part of the probate record for him which I found and suggests a Francis (junior) existed.) I need to find out if Francis (senior) was born in Ryarsh or whether he came from Hadlow from where I believe the family originated (lots more earlier Yeomen there), although going through the Hadlow records, the latest Francis record I can find is 1673. All the Pawley's either disappeared from Hadlow around this time or the records are not available online.

If there is anybody out there could look up the Pawleys of Ryarsh for me I would be extremely grateful!

There is a record for a Francis Pawley. Linton Kent, Ch 4/11/1792 Parents James & Sarah. This is probably not him though. I certainly cannot find anything else.

The Hugh wallis site is not available at the moment Is there anyway you could check the local records office/archives? Have you tried West kent family historysociety? they have a web address it is North West Kent Family History Society perhaps you could phone them.

    Hi Pejay,

I believe the Centre for Kentish studies holds the records but I live a long way from Kent. The Kent Family History Society have transcribed them but charge £17 per CD for just for a few of their parishes on their website which is really expensive for me. I think the Church of latter day Saints London branch might also have them, but they are currently based in Kew while they refurbish, which is also a long way for me.

Ideally I need a kind soul in Maidstone or Kew or someone who has the Ryarsh transcriptions on disc who wouldn't mind doing a lookup for me.

What is the Hugh Wallis site?

The Hugh Wallis site is part of the IGI and belongs to the LDS - as they have updated their site His site is temporarily unavailable. The site means you can search by parishes. If you think the LDS may have them I think you can phone them and ask to book and borrow them. They will go to your nearest LDS center where you can look at them. I think so anyway. I agree it can be very expensive I recently paid £26 pounds at a record office for a 1hr search.
