    Default A Smith Marriage

I am looking for marriage of Elizabeth A Norris or Morris to Thomas Samuel Smith .

Elizabeth Norris was born in Frome according to 1901 Wales Census in 1862 and had her first daughter Elizabeth or Bessy in 1898 Bristol .
She was 36 quite old for first child if it was her first .
Elizabeth or Bessy and her sister Ethelreda's father was Thomas Samuel Smith a Ships Steward or Cook Merchant Navy.
We think Thomas might have been born in Liverpool in 1855 if we have got the right ships records
I found a marriage for Elizabeth Norris Frome marrying Elijah Silk but checked it and she was still married to him in 1891
I have found an Elizabeth Norris in the Workhouse Frome in 1871 and there is also another one with parents William and Paulina
I found the daughters Ethel and Bessie in 1911 in Cwnfelinfach as adopted daughters of Thomas Derbyshire was a seaman and neighbour at some stage in Cardiff He was born in London
It looks like their mother Elizabeth A Smith (Norris) had died thought to be in labour and the father. Thomas Samuel Smith was still at sea
We have found out he was at some time on S S Anglo Saxon . He is thought to have died at sea and was buried Suffolk or perhaps East Anglia before 1917 as he is deceased at Elizabeths marriage to Reginald Long

How can I get further with either of them without marriage cert Help appreciated

Sometimes one just has to buy the certs to find the answers. There is a birth of Elizabeth ann Norris jan/feb/march Frome Somerset gro no. 5c, 569
and another Elizabeth norris July 1861 Frome, 5c,567.
One is possibly daughter of William and Paulina whose daughter is with them aged 10 and the other may be the one of the Elizabeth in the workhouse at Frome aged 9, along with a James Norris6 and William Norris 13. All siblings?
I cannot find the marriage to Thomas Samuel smith so your Elizabeth may have married before.
By 1891 one of these Elizabeths was already married to George William Beake and went on to have 9 baby Beakes. But which Elizabeth married GW Beake?
Do you have a death cert for Elizabeth Smith?
Have looked everywhere I can think of for Elizabeth's marriage to Thomas but no luck. Might they have married in someplace else?
    Somewhere the ship docked?

I don't know. I try only to buy certs I am almost certain of ... and they have turned up some surprises and given me answers I needed. But they are over £9 each now..
You say that it was thought the death of Elizabeth was caused by labour. Was another baby born? That was why I asked if you had the death cert.
Sometimes death certs can be quite useful.
It's quite a puzzle because the only way you can find out which Elizabeth she was is to have a marriage cert for her which will give her father's name and occupation and you can't find the marriage.
Where was your Elizabeth in 1891?

I cant find her in 1891 I have looked at Elizabeths from Frome and there are 30plus of them She apparently died in child birth there are two Elizabeth Smiths dying in Cardiff around 1902/3 and about 6 Smiths at 0 So not sure of the right one Elizabeth Beake is still with her husband in 1901

I couldnt find her either but there are some clever people on here and they will surely find her. It often needs a fresh pair of eyes who spots a mistranscription and such. You just need a bit of luck on this one. She was out there somewhere aged about 28 either single or married,

Having looked through again I am edging towards William and Paulina being the parents of your Elizabeth born Frome;(( all W and P's children were born in Frome as was Paulina.) rather than John and Ann because their Elizabeth Ann was born in Nunney and the three Noris children in the Frome workhouse in 1871 , William. Elizabeth and James were all born at Nunney. However with nothing confirmed by parish registers or certs it is all conjecture at this stage.
