    Hi Chirs
Not a dumb question at all. The most recent births, deaths and marriages available are probably 2006. (Somebody will I hope correct me!!) as the various online sources are still transcribing the most recent events. That explains why you cannot find grans death. As to why you can not find your own birth, I'm not sure. I'm not sure how upto date the births are on FreeBMD, but it would (unless you were adopted) be found on one of the pay to view sites.

All the information that you will find on any site for a birth would be the mothers maiden name, fathers surmane, registration district, volume that the birth is recorded in and the page number. From this information you can purchase a copy of a birth certifcate. Death records may provide the date of birth, or approx year of birth, if the dob is not know. Marriage records, bride & grooms names, but all records only provide the details that are required to order the certificate. (Parish records do contain more information, but tend to be used for research prior to 1837.)

Now your gran has died, you could post her name to this site, and the members would help to find her marriage, birth etc. If however your granda is still alive, then you would need to pm someone on this site, who will then help you with your research. (We are not allowed to post information about living people.)
Hope this help and welcome to AA
    Brian

    mexbigshow,
    Hi and welcome,
What was your gran's name? and is your grandfather alive or not?
I have found what I think is your parents' marriage but if they are both alive then I will put the details in a private message to you as we are not allowed to put the names of living people on here.

Will pm you the marriage details and will look for grandparents.
Don't worry about being a newbie.... everyone is welcome on here. We were all newbies once.
Hope you have great enjoyment finding your roots. Anything you need just ask. Can't promise that we'll find things but we will certainly try.
TRY Google searching. Just put a name in and see what comes up.

Can I ask that you go back to the post number 3, and use the edit facility and remove your mum and dads names and dates of birth. Lola5 is looking into the details for you and will pm you soon with anything she finds. The reason we do not include details of living persons, is they may not want their details published and also to prevent possible identity theft. Hope you understand
    thanks
    Brian
