Default Need help with birth certificate fathers name

What name would appear on a birth certificate if a wife had a child by another man other than her husband, when her husband knew it was not his and did not want anything to do with the child? Can anyone help,

It would depend on a number of things.
If the child was still kept in the family, or to save face , he/she might have been registered under the husband's name. If he/she was to be quickly spirited away and wife and husband continued to live together then it might have mother's name with father's name blank.... or baby might have been registered with his birth father's name and his mothers. It depends who registered the birth also.
Best thing to do would be to obtain the birth cert and see what is on it.

    Thanks Lola

The problem we have is the actual birth we have obtained marriage cert, it gives a name of William Billington but we can not find a birth cert with that name on for the year of birth.

this thread relates to another posted on brickwall refering to an adoption the information we have is from family, his name was John Caton Billington this appears on Marriage certificate which we have obtained, his birthday was 17th March 1918, he died on 10th Febuary 1970, at which time he was 51. His address on the marriage certificate is 61 Crown Street Preston Lancs, his age is 22 and his fathers name is William Billington, the marriage took place in St Pauls Preston.

Yes all the information you have given is correct except age at death he was 51. We do not know where the Caton came from this is one of the misteries, the John C. is a john clifford, his father was not a william, this is where we keep hitting brickwall.

John Clifford Billington was born 25 Sept 1918 and died May 1996 Preston Lancs. So we know he is not yours.
Might I suggest the Caton was his real father's name? There were plenty of John Catons in Preston.
I have a John Billingham L****** who was illig. The Billingham was his father's name. The mother went on to marry someone else and the child brought up by his grandparents.Who John Billingham(the father) was I have yet to find.
It is just possible that with your John he was given the natural father's surname as a middle name. You might just find a William caton!
