Thread: Edward John Fisher

Hi everyone


I am trying to trace my late husbands grandad Edward John Fisher.

He was born in 1882/1883 I believe in Eastbourne. In 1916 he married Eleanor Maria Clarke in Northampton, they had a son Edward Paul Raymond in 1917 and a daughter Margaret in 1920.

Details on marriage certificate,address 58 Essex St Northampton, profession Soldier. His father is Fred Fisher a bricklayer.

I have tracked Edward John on all available census, but can find nothing of him after 1920 when his daughter was born. Any advice on where to look for him would be appreciated.

I can't find an Edward J Fisher death in Northant's to fit with his birth year. Maybe he moved out of Northant's? Do you know in which area Eleanor Maria died?

I've just found Eleanor Marias death in Northampton, Jan-Mar qrt 1974. So, if they were still together after 1920 it is likely he died in Northant's too.

She died in 1974 in Northampton.

I did make contact by post with a daughter of Margaret, and she said that her mother (Eleanor) told her that Edward John left soon after her (Margarets) birth, joined the Foreign Legion and was never heard from again.
How true this is I do not know.

When my husband was alive and we visited his parents, he Edward was never mentioned.

There are a few deaths for Edward J Fisher's born circa 1882, but establishing which one is 'yours', if any, could prove difficult.
