I'm looking for info on Martha Findlow, she married George Swindells on the 7th May 1863 at Macclesfield St Michael in Cheshire.

Hi Brian and Lola, many thanks for your replies, I got thrown off course somewhat with the 1881 Census which gave Martha's birthplace as Wincle
in Derbyshire. Alas you guys have helped me knock down another brick. Thankyou so much for your valid time in this Look Up. Much appreciated.

Lola I don't have Martha's father's name, but now I know she was born in Leekfrith I'll check for a christening on the familysearch site.

You may need to keep an open mind until you actually find your Martha's birth or baptism. Need to look for her on several censuses to determine her birthplace.
The Martha Findlow born Leekfrith was born in 1840! to John and Martha. Yours it seems was born 1835, If you could get the marriage cert. of George Swindells and Martha then that would give her father's name. They married April/May/June quarter in 1863 Macclesfield Cheshire gro no 8a, 124.
I have been through the various Marthas that might be her but am totally confused.

Hi Lola, I found a Martha Swindells nee Findlow in the 1881 census residing in a lunatic asylum occupation given was farmer's wife, hence her not appearing on George's 1881 census. But as you say a marriage cert might be the only way forward.

I've just ordered a copy of Martha & George's marriage certificate as it may appear that she is my great, great grandmother, although i'm confused over the name.
